While you can find places to be solitary and quiet (the adults-only Sanctuary, for instance), Carnival Vista is not a ship for wallflowers. I spent my first day on board touching everything, from the raised pattern on the elevator walls to the soft velvets on couches in the various lounges. The first-generation Vista Cruiser pioneered a standard[1] raised roof with split skylight that began over the second-row seating, with lateral glass panels over the rear cargo area that was earlier introduced in 1954 on the GMC Scenicruiser Bus. Sun visors for second row passengers, and a third row of forward-facing passenger seating, were available as an option. Access to the third row was gained by a split-folding second row seat that could be retracted forward.
Elegant casual resort wear translates into date-night dresses (but not full-on cocktail attire), skirts and blouses or dressy pants and tops for women, and collared shirts and slacks for men. For casual dining, choose the Pizzeria or Terrace Café for your evening meal. Passengers can bring up to six bottles of wine per cabin for consumption in their room. If you wish to drink your own wine in a restaurant or public area of the ship, you will need to pay a $25 per bottle corkage fee.
Cabin carpeting is only made from naturally-occurring wool colors and not dyes that passengers can have allergic reactions to, and butter and flour for the onboard croissants are imported from France. The dress code on Carnival Vista is pretty casual, even on “elegant nights”, so there is no need to pack a tuxedo or cocktail dress if you think you’ll be happy dining in the buffet on the more formal evenings. The best decks on Carnival Vista for those who prioritize sleep over fun are decks 1 or 8, which are the only ones that have nothing but other rooms above or below. Note that some cabins between the aft and midship elevator banks on deck 8 may get noise from the IMAX theater.

It was the perfect amount of space for me, but I could see how a couple might fight over the drawer space. I failed to find anything serious to critique about Vista, so what I didn't love about the ship is more about my personality than any real failing of the cruise line. Fans of the line will appreciate that Vista is modeled from sister ships Marina and Riviera, and the layout is strikingly similar. As you can see, there’s a lot to keep you fed, no matter how long your cruise may be. You’ll enjoy a variety of cuisines, too, so there’s plenty for every palate. Everyone raved about the spinach-artichoke dip starter, and the sashimi tuna starter was perfectly pan seared.
